Joining takes place on or about the 1st of June, for seven weeks. Some of those that fail to get into calf are sold for slaughter, but the best animals are given a second chance and sold pregnancy tested in calf to the discerning buyer as we like to limit our calving spread as much as possible.
The herd has Johne's status MN3. All animals have been vaccinated with seven in one and vaccinated against pestivirus as well as against vibriosis. All bulls are ear notch tested in order to eliminate any that might be persistently infected with pestivirus. All sale bulls are semen tested and subjected to penis examination by a qualified technician before sale.
Animals are supplemented with hay during the summer and autumn drought and again after the break until the pastures are actively growing once more. Bulls and yearling heifers are supplemented with some grain during the summer and autumn, but the amount does not exceed one kilogram per 500 kilogram liveweight a day.
All animals are weighed within twenty-four hours of birth and again at 200, 400 and 600 days. Scrotal measurements are taken at 400 days while all animals are scanned for eye muscle area, rib fat, rump fat and intramuscular fat at 600 days.
Yearling bulls are for sale at any time from 600 days onwards. All bulls are guaranteed to be fertile, structurally sound and fit for natural service. They have not been fattened for show and are ready to work. Foot trimming is not practised.
Any buyer who is dissatisfied with his purchase is urged to get in touch with us straightaway. If there is any doubt about possible defects, other than those due to injury after the bull leaves our care, we are prepared to replace the bull or refund the purchase money.
Pregnancy tested in calf females are usually available from November onwards after their calves have been weaned and will be advertised on our web site when they become available. Enquiries are welcomed.
